At Bukedea Township Primary School, a total of 83 primary science teachers  as 83 from 33 primary schools gathered for a hands-on Science Kit Usage Training. The training brought together 70 male and 13 female educators, all united by a shared goal: to enhance practical, learner-centered science teaching in their classrooms.

The session focused on equipping teachers with the knowledge and confidence to effectively utilize the Primary Science Kits, tools designed to make science more interactive, engaging, and understandable for learners. For many teachers, the training marked a turning point in how they approach science instruction, shifting from theory-heavy lessons to practical, experiment-driven learning experiences.

Findings from the training revealed encouraging progress. Of 80 respondents, 62 teachers (77.5%) reported having already used the science kits in their classrooms. This demonstrates a strong adoption rate and reflects growing confidence among teachers in integrating hands-on learning into their teaching practices. However, 18 teachers (22.5%) reported not having used the kits yet, highlighting the need for continued mentorship, follow-up support, and encouragement to ensure no teacher is left behind.

Throughout the training, teachers actively engaged in demonstrations, group activities, and peer learning sessions. Many expressed renewed enthusiasm for teaching science, noting that the kits simplify complex concepts and make lessons more enjoyable for learners. The collaborative environment also allowed teachers to share experiences, challenges, and practical solutions, fostering a supportive professional community.

The impact of this training extends beyond the teachers, it directly influences the quality of learning for hundreds of pupils across Bukedea. By empowering teachers with practical skills and tools, the initiative is helping to nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of science among young learners.

While the high usage rate is a promising indicator of success, the journey continues. Strengthening follow-up support, monitoring classroom application, and addressing barriers faced by the remaining teachers will be essential in achieving full utilization of the science kits.

The Bukedea training stands as a powerful reminder that when teachers are equipped and inspired, classrooms are transformed, and so are the futures of the learners they serve.
