Salam TV MD Hajj Kaliisa Tours River Flow International, Applauds Local Science Innovation

The Managing Director of Salam TV, Hajj Kaliisa, has commended River Flow International for its innovative approach to transforming science education through locally developed teaching materials.

During his visit, Hajj Kaliisa expressed gratitude to the team for producing impactful science learning resources that are already making a difference in classrooms. He noted that learners can now understand scientific concepts more easily, thanks to the materials’ simplified, practical nature.

“Thank you, team, for producing these wonderful materials. We are glad to see that learners are now using them to learn science in a simplified way,” he said.

He highlighted the shift from the traditional “chalk and talk” method of teaching to a more engaging, hands-on approach. According to him, teachers previously spent a lot of time explaining abstract concepts on the chalkboard. Still, the introduction of science kits has made teaching more practical, time-efficient, and effective.

River Flow International is currently producing science kit cabinets to support schools, with over 300 units already in progress. Hajj Kaliisa applauded the dedication and teamwork behind the initiative, noting that the organization has brought together highly skilled and energetic educators committed to improving science education.

He was particularly impressed by the craftsmanship involved in developing the models. The process includes careful assembly to ensure precision, followed by spraying with a base colour and finishing with detailed designs. The use of colour coding to represent different parts of scientific models, such as the digestive and circulatory systems, enhances understanding and allows both teachers and learners to easily identify and interpret various components.

“These models are well labelled, with clear indicators such as arrows and stickers, making it easier for learners to grasp how the human body functions,” he observed.

Hajj Kaliisa praised the innovation for simplifying science and responding to the national call to improve performance in science subjects. He noted that many learners previously struggled with subjects like physics and chemistry due to a lack of practical understanding.

Looking ahead, he encouraged River Flow International to expand its impact beyond schools and into communities. He emphasized the importance of equipping out-of-school youth particularly those who drop out at primary or secondary levels with practical skills aligned to the country’s growing focus on innovation and skilling.

“There are many young people who can benefit from these skills. This initiative can be extended to communities to support skilling and innovation, which are key priorities for national development,” he said.
