Project Goal

To promote the practical use of laboratories and quality learning/teaching of science in Secondary Schools in Uganda.

Why are these books unique?

Stimulate the interest of learners in science at all levels by engaging them in activities that show everyday life application of science.

Encourage students to pursue science at higher levels of education by creating an appreciation of science using field experiences.

Develop numerous skills in Learners by engaging them in activities that foster the manipulation of information, creativity, reasoning, and deduction.

Encourage the teaching of science using local material substitutes in case the usual laboratory equipment and reagents are lacking or too expensive.

Despite the Government’s efforts to adopt a learner-centered and new practical approach to teaching science, reading materials that promote the practical teaching and learning of science remain few in primary schools. STI is therefore seeking partnerships and resources that will make these books available to all schools especially those in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

Teachers Capacity Building

RIFI through the PPAS project produces science instructional materials. For these materials to be efficiently and effectively used, RIFI-STI trains science teachers on how best they can use them to conduct practical and learner-centered lessons.

Literacy for Lifelong Learning(3Ls)

Literacy for Lifelong Learning(3Ls)

Science Readers are unique storybooks based on the primary science curriculum from P.1-P.7. They are prepared to help and encourage pupils to develop the skill and love for reading. As they master the basics of literacy, they acquire knowledge on how to handle day-to-day challenges.

Self-help Science Projects

To further demonstrate the importance of science, RIFI has formed a partnership with schools to set up science projects. These projects enable learners to apply classroom knowledge and acquire skills that will help them in their daily life at home, school, and after they finish or leave
